2019 Touch n Tulips tournament in Amsterdam

GALAXY sent a team to play in the annual Touch n Tulips open mixed tournament in Amsterdam in July 2019. The team was made up of players from six Galaxy affiliates - London, Prague, Auckland, Paris, Gold Coast and Washington DC.

They arrived and met on the Thursday before, had a meet and greet, some team bonding and sightseeing leading up to the tournament and on the Friday evening trained for 2 hours to sort positions, roles and put some team systems in place then ran a 2 hour coaching clinic for all interested parties which was well received.

Saturday was tournament day and 13 teams took part in the event. Teams from seven different countries were in attendance. Galaxy played four round games. Gent from Belgium, CDR Hurricanes from France, Amsterdam from the Netherlands, Cologne from Germany and Phantoms from England. The team went through undefeated and beat London Phantoms in the Final 7 - 1. An awesome evening function took place then relaxing and sightseeing on the Sunday to finish of a memorable few days.

Thanks Toshi, Trieu, Andre, Erik, Dougie, Paulie, Ty, Pete, Emily, Jules, Mahala, Sarah and Charly.

2018 NZ Juniors tour to Gold Coast Australia

Galaxy Touch sent nine Junior teams from our New Zealand affiliates and Galaxy Sydney to tour the Gold Coast and surrounding region of Australia in 2018 on a development tour to learn, grow, compete and be challenged both on and off the touch field. Teams ranging from Under 10s, 12s, 14s, 16s and 18s took part. Whangarei x1, Auckland x2, Waikato x2, New Plymouth x2, Wellington x1 and Sydney x1 had teams.

The 10 day trip included excursions to various theme and game parks, coaching sessions with some of the best in the business, team training sessions and matches against local and rep level opponents. We were hosted by Kimi Brown and our awesome Galaxy Gold Coast club whanau who helped with organising meals, accommodation, tents and transport. Some highlights were the theme parks of course, all the fun, games and learnings with each other, a coaching session with Aussie open reps Pete Norman and Danni Davis, playing games against many of the strong local gold coast area teams who fielded many kiwis and had whanau involved and also the exhibition match on tournament day where the 18boys got to run up against touch legends Dylan Hennessey, Drummayne Deyberg-Muir, Remus Gentles, Manu Wakely and Peter Walters.

So good to have our players experience so much - different cultures, a different country and venues, mix with new people, make new friends, face new styles of game play, different talk and different referee styles.

We thank all our coaches, managers, support staff, parents and hosts who did a fantastic job in supporting our children and being a part of their awesome memory making.
